Building technology for modern infusion centers. Serving those who serve others.

When hearing other people talk about cars (I live in NYC so I don't and might never own one), one concept that I find pretty cool is "smiles per mile". Essentially, a measure of how much joy driving a certain car can bring. At Endue, perhaps one of the most important "metrics" that I set for myself and my team is "smiles per line of code". For an engineering team, this has a couple of layers: 1. Solid infrastructure: From day one, my goal as CTO has been to make our developers have the best experience possible. That means investing in modern tooling, and solid infrastructure, so engineers don't have to constantly worry about breaking builds, slow deployments and such. Such a good foundation ensures that it's a joy to build software for our customers. 2. Engaging problems: The engineering and product problems we solve are inherently very challenging and engaging. Part of this comes from the very high bar we set for ourselves, that we very often go above and beyond for our customers. It's definitely very hard, but I love seeing the smiles in our engineers' faces when they solve a difficult problem and ship an important feature. 3. Deep empathy: This is perhaps the most important. I believe engineers can't truly find joy in their work unless they develop a deep level of empathy with the end users. When that is developed and cultivated, a smile on the customer's face when they use a cool and useful feature should translate to a smile in the engineer's face. We have a couple of examples for this recently - one when we finally were able to help our clients resume posting claims worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that had been stuck due to the unfortunate Change Healthcare outage. There was another instance when we were able to design, develop and ship an important feature to our clients in a matter of days. Seeing the customer's smiles was priceless for our team. If you operate an infusion center, and feel that your #infusion software provider hasn't been giving you the "premier" experience they promise, and you haven't smiled a lot while using their software, please talk to me. Even if you feel OK-ish, I'd love to have a conversation too to see if we can make your life so much better. I'd be happy to show you a demo of our software, and connect you with our happy customers. I promise you will talk directly to a technologist who deeply cares about how many smiles you will have when you use our software. And I promise you that under my watch as CTO, our team will always be that team who optimize for "smiles per line of code". Not only ours, but most importantly, yours. #healthtech #infusionsoftware #infusiontherapy #homeinfusion #specRx

Building technology for modern infusion centers. Serving those who serve others.

2023 was truly a year of learning for me, as there were so many firsts for which I’m forever grateful for. 🙏 - Our first full year in our own Brooklyn apartment. It’s humble, but thanks to my dear wife, our 3 little kids, and our extended family, is always filled with laughter, joy and adventure! 🏡 - We welcomed our baby boy Leon, who possesses the superpower of making us forget all of our problems with his gleeful smiles! 👶🏼 - My first time undergoing such a major, scary, but totally needed surgery. I often joke that I was given an early preview of being old - due to some complications my mouth was wired shut and I was on a liquid diet for the better of 2 months. A total torture for a self-confessed food lover, as you could imagine. 💉🔪😅 - My first full year building and operating Endue. There were so many firsts which come with this. Together with my inimitable co-founder Brian Brett, we assembled a strong and passionate team, built a well-loved product, signed our first happy customers, secured our first round of funding, made a ton of mistakes (and are still learning from them). We did so many more in just a couple of months I can’t possibly list them all! 🌱🪴 Other highlights of the year: - Spent some short but quality time with my Dad, who has been battling cancer like a champ for the last 6 years. - Got to travel to and work from Europe (France, Italy, Spain) for 3 weeks with my family. - Caught up with Prof. Steven Miller (founding dean of my alma mater Singapore Management University - SIS) in New York. His generous scholarship almost 20 years ago gave me the confidence to pursue the next big things. - Met some old friends (Aditya Sarawgi, Thao Ha, Michael Vanacoro and many others) in person and heard about the amazing things they've been up to. I had the privilege to travel back to Vietnam in the closing days of 2023, and got to spend some time bonding with my nephew. In one of those many dull moments when he had to endure my cliché philosophizing, I told him this random thought that when we treat life as a series of learning experiences, it becomes very difficult to fail. The only failure mode left is the failure to learn. I believe in it though. 2023 is coming to a close with so many great learning experiences. I can’t wait to welcome the new journey of 2024. One of the best parts of this journey is the companions: my wife, my family, and you - my friends. 🚀 Happy New Year!! 🎆

Building technology for modern infusion centers. Serving those who serve others.

About a year ago, I was set on starting my own company to work on health tech. While my motivations are vast and varied (a story for another day), the potential impact of health tech innovation speaks for itself. One common objecting voice however - whether coming from within when I was playing devil's advocate against myself, or from a concerning friend or family member - was my lack of direct healthcare experience. "You're not a physician." "You've never run an #infusion center." Such objections were understandable. Having industry experience can be seen as invaluable, with some even suggesting that the best solutions should only emerge from within the sector. However, a closer look at the healthtech landscape tells a fascinating, different story. Some of the most influential medical software giants were founded by individuals without medical backgrounds: - Epic: Founded by Judy Faulkner, a computer science and mathematics graduate. - Cerner: Founded by Arthur Andersen consultants, sans medical background. - Athenahealth: Jonathan Bush and Todd Park, rooted in business and economics. - Meditech: A. Neil Pappalardo, who started from computer programming. - NextGen: Sheldon Razin, with a foundation in engineering and business. Why did significant innovations in healthcare software spring from minds outside of traditional healthcare roles? One possible explanation lies in the wisdom of Henry Ford's words: entrenched insiders who "experienced firsthand the unique challenges of the industry" may often envision improved versions of what they already know (a faster horse) instead of groundbreaking innovations (a car). This isn't to dismiss the vital expertise of those within healthcare. Their depth of knowledge is crucial. In fact, since we founded Endue, we have been very fortunate to work with more than 60 of the brightest, most experienced minds in #infusiontherapy. That wealth of experience, combined with fresh, external perspectives and proven expertise in technology can create a dynamic force for innovation. As outsiders, we question norms, challenge established processes, and imagine novel solutions. Such that one of our advisors and early clients emphatically claimed that we had listened to and understood his pain points after 3 calls better than his current software provider had in 3 years. If you're a technologist with aspirations to change healthcare for the better, don't be disheartened by your different background. Embrace it, collaborate with medical experts, and drive change. And to the seasoned healthcare professionals, an invitation: let's innovate together. Your experience combined with fresh viewpoints could be the formula for the next big breakthrough. What are your thoughts? Have you seen the benefits of combined expertise in action, like we did?
